Volunteer at Austin Kink Weekend 2026
AKW is built by the folks who show up for it. Every year, our volunteers are the reason the weekend runs — managing the doors, keeping workshops on track, holding space backstage, and making sure every attendee walks into a room that feels intentional and safe.
Whether you've been in the community for decades or this is your first event, volunteering is the fastest way to go from "I was there" to "I helped build it."
What You'll Be Doing
We're looking for reliable people to fill roles across four areas. You don't need prior event experience — just a willingness to show up prepared and take the work seriously.
Hospitality & Registration You're the first person attendees see. You'll handle check-in, distribute credentials, answer questions, and set the tone for the weekend. A calm presence and attention to detail go a long way here.
Session Stewards You'll support our educators by managing room flow, assisting with equipment, and keeping workshops focused and on schedule. You'll be in the room while the teaching happens — which means you learn, too.
Production & Stage Crew The engine behind our contests and evening events. This means technical support, backstage coordination, and making sure performers and contestants have what they need to do their best work on stage.
Operational Logistics Vendor market layout, equipment moves, space transitions between events. This is the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the weekend running with precision. If you like solving problems in real time, this is your lane.
What You Get Back
Volunteering at AKW isn't just a time commitment — it's a trade. You put in the hours, and the community gives back:
- Event access and perks, which may include passes, gear, or invitations to volunteer-only gatherings.
- Real connections with the production team and fellow volunteers — the kind of bonds that come from doing hard work together.
- A front-row seat to the weekend, from education tracks to contest nights. Stewarding a workshop means you're learning alongside the attendees.
- A role in keeping the space safe. Consent protocols, privacy, and the physical well-being of every participant depend on collective vigilance. Your presence is part of that structure.
